Welcome to my OCD Educational Documents…

Hi, I’m Carol Edwards, former CBT Therapist for OCD and related disorders, and now an OCD writer and study coach…

I started my career in mental health in 1996 with a certificate for counselling skills at my local college. I went on to study autism in schools and later achieved a diploma for “helping in schools” and advocated for students on the autism spectrum. Next, I graduated from college with a professional qualification in cognitive behavioural therapy and decided to specialise in obsessive-compulsive and related conditions. With two further diplomas in OCD and continuing professional development in Asperger’s syndrome, I set up as a freelance CBT therapist for OCD on and off the autism spectrum. While I no longer do therapy, I continue to write about my topic with blogs and online coaching with my educational documents; I’m also writing a book on aversion versus “desire” in the pure-obsessional subtypes in OCD, to be published soon!

My goal is to add to the blogs already on my site, which anyone can read here. Also, to continue to provide educational documents overtime, which are password protected. Individuals and groups can purchase codes (see store lower down the page). Once purchased, you can study at your own pace.

Access to the information lasts for one month, and during the month, I encourage interaction whereby questions about the relevant document can be sent to me via the “leave a reply” section at the bottom of the WordPress page, or you are welcome to start a conversation. The choice is yours, you may prefer to study alone, and that’s okay, too.

After one month, you can purchase the password again, and continue the same as before.

You can be assured of up my-to-date, thoroughly researched material, brought fresh to your screen for sound learning and easy comprehension. I also include in my documents personal accounts of living with OCD, and related issues.

Thank you for visiting my website, and I hope you’ll find something of interest in my growing collection of blogs and educational documents!

I look forward to welcoming you…

Best regards, Carol Edwards, Your OCD Study Coach…

Review Dissociation on and off the OCD and Autism Spectrums

Carol Edwards writes an interesting evaluation of the symptoms that describe dissociative states, such as depersonalisation and derealisation. In this 5-part document (approx. 8,000 words), Carol talks about dissociation not only on a personal perspective but also from external study and working previously with individuals who suffer from these often frightening dissociative states on and off the OCD and autism spectrums. Carol Edwards delves deeper into the discussion that takes the reader through a selection of case studies. These include accounts of dissociative amnesia and identity confusion, also the challenges that come with dual diagnosis when people's experiences of OCD/dissociation collide with a sense of "reality and possibility" - here, Carol Edwards discusses how people assert their obsessional beliefs despite rational judgement to the contrary. For example, she points out that in an identity-crisis obsession, a person knows who they are, rationally, but cannot get passed the possibility that they're not the person they know themselves to be. The author goes on to explain that individual dissociative states must not be confused with other conditions, such as schizophrenia and ends the discussion with treatment options that include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and exposure response prevention (ERP) coupled with a handful of useful tips. An informative read for anyone who lives with dissociation, or for therapists to have in their files for quick reference. This fascinating review comes with links to relevant assessment scales and eight homework checks for strengthening the learning objectives. Carol Edward's feedback report of all homework assignments is available (details included in the document). A unique password that allows access to the document for one month is sent to the buyer's email address following purchase. Interaction via the "Leave a Reply" section is available to password users, only. After the password link expires, it can be purchased again, and the buyer resumes as before.
